Great piece! Not to quibble, but I was always ambivalent about the "fine free" idea and wondering if that is still a trend in public libraries.

I can't speak to it as a trend, but we did away with overdue fines a couple of years ago at our university library,

From what I recall the patron still had to pay for material if it was never returned, so the concern was that items would be kept out for an undue amount of time without late fees. But most libraries also extended checkout times so perhaps that is less of an issue.
