In recent weeks, I’ve been thinking much about institutions and trust and how we create connections and make decisions that make sense to all of us, and how libraries might contribute to that endeavor. I plan to write an article for this newsletter on sense-making in libraries and the “epistemic commons” necessary for our practices . My environmental scans in this arena have taken me far afield at times, but I increasingly hone in on a spectrum of habits, norms, and principles, ranging from the most individual-responsibility-energized to the most professionally and organizationally-focused. I’m offering here a list of sources that illustrate some of the terrain I’ve traversed. (I especially encourage listening to the podcast with Heather Shayne Blakeslee, but allow time for it, it’s 1 hour 20 minutes).
Happy reading and listening.
