In an era where it is increasingly difficult to determine what is real and what is true arrives the youtube channel Real Creepy stories. Real Creepy stories advertises that it accepts submissions and turns them into “fictional radio theatrical productions.” The anonymous host begins the videos by explaining that stories should be submitted through the use of a reliable VPN and a “throwaway email account.” The host clarifies which parts of each story constitute “creative freedom” on the part of Real Creepy stories. They advertise themselves as the perfect publication service for those who have stories that are otherwise too dangerous to tell. It appears the channel put out a handful of videos a year ago but hasn’t been active since.
I heard about Real Creepy stories through a recent Ann Tomoko Rosen Substack piece on what, for lack of a better descriptor, I will dub “Glittergate.” While the Real Creepy stories videos on the subject strike me as good science fiction, there is in fact a great glitter mystery, as delved into by these renegade documentarians. Who knew? Perhaps it explains the popularity of Taylor Swift.
